Tany is the platform we wished existed when we were trying to get our own cafes off DoorDash.
I run two cafes in the Toronto area: Wet Coffee in Oakville, and Tut's Egyptian Street Food, a small chain with five locations. Like every independent cafe operator, I had three options for a mobile app:
- Hire an agency:$30k–$80k, 8–12 weeks, then I'd still pay for maintenance forever.
- DIY:I'm not an engineer. This wasn't going to happen.
- Per Diem:Excellent product — but $199 USD/month, priced in USD, and the Canadian dollar wasn't doing me any favors.
So I built the thing myself for Wet Coffee. Three months in, I realized two things: it works, and the infrastructure I built for Wet would work for every other independent cafe with a Square POS. So I extracted it into a platform.
Tany — Egyptian Arabic for “again” — embeds the entire goal of every loyalty program in the name. Make your customer come back. The second order is what makes a cafe.
We charge $99 CAD a month + $0.25 per order. That's about 40% less than what Per Diem charges in CAD. Same features. Same product quality. Built and supported by someone who actually runs cafes.
Wet Coffee is tenant #1. Tut's is tenant #2. If you run an independent cafe in Canada with a Square POS, you should be #3.
